The archeological site Bargala, situated where the Kozjacka River joins the Bregalnica River, was a fortified town from Late Antiquity, built between the 4th and the 6th centuries. The town was a minor Paeonian settlement that gradually grew into an important religious and cultural center. Archeological excavations have revealed the following important buildings, which can be seen today: the Episcopal basilica, the Episcopal residence, the main entrance-dipylon, as well as some auxiliary facilities, such as the water tank, the bath, and the fortification system with a dominant main gate and infrastructure.
