Nowadays, we all are accustomed to seeing fast developing technologies, driving fast speeding cars and using highspeedInternet. Nevertheless, if you want to experience a romantic “time travel” back to the 20-th century and slow down for a while, just take a trip on the last operational narrow gauge line in Bulgaria: the line Septemvri – Dobrinishte!
The route has a total length of 124,7 km. It connects the Gornotrakiyska Valley with the Rhodope, Rila and Pirin Mountains. On its way it passes through the gorge of Chepinskariver, stops at the SPA-Capital Velingrad and heads towards the Avramovo Saddle, which divides Rila and the Rhodopes. This is where the highest railway station on the Balkan Peninsula lies – Station Avramovo, at 1267 m above sea level.
